Happy New Year! You will see me posting maybe a bit less often this year due to my studies, but I'll try to keep this up. Especially as the award season is upon us. The Oscar nominations are coming out tomorrow morning and the Golden Globes will be held this weekend. I'll write a BIG post about the nominations tomorrow, I didn't think I should bother with pre-nom post after all, since it would end up being just a list of all those who made their the shortlist of their respective categories. But more on that tomorrow. As for the Golden Globes, which are this Sunday, I'll write about them Monday, few words on that later too. But now for the usual screencaps (movie edition this time).

TV

New year means new TV shows. One of them is 1600 Penn premiering tomorrow. The new comedy focuses on the dysfunctional presidential family. The show includes actors such as Jenna Elfman, Bill Pullman and Josh Gad (also the co-creator of the show). It is pretty much the only new comedy this spring if you don't include the revamped Up All Night which is changing to multi-camera setup.

New TV season also means the return of great shows. Cougar Town started yesterday on their new home at TBS after they purchased the show rights. The premiere episode included a cameo by Michelle Williams who is BFF of one of the stars of Cougar Town, Busy Phillips. The two co-starred in Dawson's Creek back in the day. Watch the clip here! Girls also returns with its second season this Sunday on HBO.

But what I most look forward to, is the second season of Smash, which starts Feb 5th. To ease the wait, EW posted first photos of the shows 10th episode which features Liza Minnelli playing herself and singing a brand new song written for the show. Can't wait for the new season!

And it wouldn't be a new year without few words about Saturday Night Live. I mentioned on my last post that Jennifer Lawrence will host this month (Yay!) and now two more hosts have been announced. Adam Levine will host for the first time (he has performed with Maroon 5 multiple times) while Kendrick Lamar is the musical guest in Jan 26st. Levine has recently had few smaller roles in movies and TV (i.e. American Horror Story) but I have no idea if he can be funny enough. And the host to follow him isn't much of an improvement: Justin Bieber, who will be on double-duty as host and musical guest. He has previously made some small cameos in SNL and performed once or twice. I just hope all his characters wont be some YOLO-yelling swagger douche bags.

The Golden Globes are approaching. This might be the funniest award show for years. With Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting, we have great expectations. The new GG promo poster promises elegance with a funny twist. According to their THR interview, they both seem to be pretty calm before the event, they even came up with a drinking game. You can try it, but I won't guarantee you'll be able to go to work/school on the following Monday after all that drinking.

FILM

2013 is going to be a big year in Film thanks to these  huge releases. Huffington Post has put them all together with trailes, so watch them here! To mention few much expected films of this year: Star Trek Into Darkness, Oz the Great and Powerful, Iron Man 3 and The Great Gatsby. You'll find a bunch of smaller releases on the list too, so be patient and watch them all.

Speaking of Great Gatsby. Jay-Z is working on the original score for the delayed film based on the book of the same name. Director Baz Luhrman is now for the use of contemporary music on his films, like Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge! Though he is Jay-Z don't assume it's going to be all rap. Maybe he'll get Beyonce to collaborate on the soundtrack too!

After conquering the TV, Ryan Murphy (Glee, New Normal, Nip/Tuck, American Horror Story) is ready to start working with films. He'll adapt the play The Normal Heart for HBO. The play/movie is set in 80's New York during the AIDS/HIV-crisis. The movie had previously attached Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts to star, but they recently added Matt Bomer. Alec Baldwin and Jim Parsons are also involved in the movie.

I wont write a full post about BAFTA nominations, but here they are!  Lincoln leads the nominations, though Steven Spielberg didn't get nominated for Best Director. The BAFTAs can't usually be thought of as a prediction to the Oscars, since the Brits usually prefer their own kin, but it's still a fun show to watch. British Film Academy also announced their nominees for the Rising Star 2013 Award, which you can find here! The event will be held Feb 10th in London.

TRAILERS

Side Effects is a thriller about Emily and Martin (Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum), a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily’s psychiatrist (Jude Law)—intended to treat anxiety—has unexpected side effects.

Ginger & Rosa is set during the nuclear-war fear of 60's and tells the story of friendship between two girls played by Elle Fanning and Alice Englert. It also stars Anette Bening, Timothy Spall, Christina Hendricks and Alessandro Nivola. This was once speculated to be a chance for Fanning to break in to the Oscar race for this year, but so far the A24 Films studio has made no effort to promote her, so I think it will stay as a daydream. Nonetheless, the trailer is pretty beautiful.

The last one isn't really a trailer, but just a clip from the new short movie Blue Umbrella, by Pixar. It's adorable and funny, everything you'd  expect from Pixar. You will find it playing in front of Monsters University this summer and it's pretty safe to say we'll find it nominated for Best Animated Short Film in 2014 Oscars.

That's all folks! Oscar nominations post coming out tomorrow!
